Nixa star running back Ramone Green II will stay home and will play his college football in southwest Missouri.
The News-Leader’s 2022 high school football player of the year announced on Sunday afternoon that he has committed to Missouri State.
The all-state running back is coming off a season in which he led the area with 2,223 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns. It followed a junior season that he was forced to miss the majority of while dealing with a broken collarbone.
Green broke out as a sophomore when he rushed for 1,300 yards and 18 scores.
Green also held offers from Western Illinois, Fort Hays, Missouri Western, Pitt State, Lincoln and others.
His efforts as a senior led Nixa to a 10-2 record and an exit in its Class 6 district championship against eventual state runner-up Lee’s Summit North. An 8-1 regular season gave the Eagles the Central Ozark Conference title — which they shared with Carthage, a team the Eagles beat in thrilling fashion earlier in the season.
Green’s top performance of the year came when he rushed for 306 yards and five touchdowns in a win over Joplin — the same team that broke his collarbone the year before. Green also ran the ball 38 times for 252 yards and two touchdowns along with a kick return for a touchdown in a 27-15 district semifinal win over Raymore-Peculiar which beat the Eagles in the 2020 district championship.
Green joins a handful of local athletes who have signed with Ryan Beard’s first Missouri State signing class. He joins Cole Feuerbacher (Glendale, QB), Andrew Link (Kickapoo, DL), Heston Miller (West Plains, WR/DL), Cooper Roy (Air Force/Glendale, EDGE) and Caden Wiest (Reeds Spring, DL).
